Recall due to the possibility that when the high-voltage battery is fully charged or close to fully charged, smoke or heat may be generated from the high-voltage battery, which may cause the high-voltage battery and other parts to melt or be damaged, exposing them to a risk of fire.

[Important Notice] We have confirmed that two extremely unlikely manufacturing defects co-exist in the same battery cell of a high-voltage battery, and these manufacturing defect conditions occur after the battery has been significantly discharged. Repeated/habitual charging to a fully or nearly fully charged state may worsen battery manufacturing defects, exposing the battery to a potential fire hazard.
1. Until a new recall action plan is released, please change the vehicle's maximum charging capacity to 90%, and change the 'Target Charge Level Option' through the charging option settings in the vehicle.
If the customer is unable to change the settings on their own, they can receive settings change by visiting a Chevrolet Bolt EV service center that can handle recalls.
2. Please recharge the battery as often as possible after driving the vehicle, and avoid allowing the remaining driving range of the battery to fall below 70 miles (approximately 113 km).
3. To prevent any emergency, park the vehicle outdoors immediately after charging. If charging for a long time (overnight charging, etc.), do not block the vehicle while it is charging.

Change the maximum charging capacity of the vehicle to 90% level

Even in high-voltage batteries produced through an improved process compared to existing high-voltage batteries, two extremely unlikely manufacturing defects may exist at the same time. In this case, when the high-voltage battery is fully charged or close to fully charged, the high-voltage battery with the manufacturing defect may emit smoke or heat, which may cause the high-voltage battery and other parts to melt or be damaged, resulting in a fire.

Due to the high temperature gas generated when the front seat belt pretensioner is activated, the insulation material under the carpet adjacent to the lower part of the B-pillar (pillar between the front and rear seats) may ignite. In this case, the recall is due to the possibility that a fire may occur in the carpet adjacent to the lower part of the B-pillar when the front seat belt pretensioner is activated. (*If smoke or fire occurs in the lower part of the B-pillar, please exit the vehicle urgently for the safety of the occupants. If necessary, assistance from the 119 fire department may be required to prevent the spread of the vehicle fire.)

Attach insulating aluminum foil tape to the insulation underneath the carpet

It was confirmed that two extremely unlikely manufacturing defects exist simultaneously in the same battery cell of a high-voltage battery. When a high-voltage battery is fully charged or close to fully charged, a high-voltage battery with a manufacturing defect may generate smoke or heat, which may cause the high-voltage battery and other parts to melt or be damaged, potentially causing a fire.
